Lost Skies preps its Worlds Adrift-esque island creator tool for a Steam launch next week

Back in the spring of 2023, the studio behind the defunct MMO Worlds Adrift Bossa Games popped back on the scene with a new game that sorta looks like Worlds Adrift but better. It’s called Lost Skies, and it’s been in fairly quiet (and fairly granular) development ever since as the devs discuss everything from building shops and island exploration. It even saw layoffs at the top of the year, shortly after entering pre-alpha.

But the game is clearly advancing to a stage where more people can access it, or at least part of it, as last night Bossa announced the impending release of the game’s island creator on Steam on December 13th. Islands are the player-built landmasses in the game.

“Lost Skies: Island Creator allows you to create your very own island for the upcoming co-op survival game Lost Skies. Create your own sky island full of stunning vistas and brutal enemies, then release it into the world via the Steam Workshop! […] The Lost Skies: Island Creator is a free standalone tool where you can create the island of your dreams or your friend’s nightmares. Form the basic look of your island using simple geometric shapes, then sculpt away until you get your island looking exactly how you imagined it. Want a giant cave system or mountain range going through the island? You can do it!”

Readers might recall that a similar island creator was a key tool for Worlds Adrift back in the 2016-2018 era as well, and it’s always been Bossa’s plan to implement it for Lost Skies. Some Worlds Adrift islands even made it into the game’s early access build.

“We have some events planned around your creations,” the devs say of the Steam tool launch. “More news on that next week.”
