When Star Wars Galaxies rogue server SWG Restoration announced a major customization and combat tree overhaul earlier this month, we didn’t imagine it was launching so soon. But in fact, a large chunk of it dropped bright and early Sunday morning in a patch called Expanding Horizons.
“The galaxy is calling, and it’s yours to shape like never before,” the player devs write. “Expanding Horizons introduces a world of new opportunities for Star Wars fans to create, customize, and explore. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or stepping into the galaxy for the first time, this latest update promises to redefine the way you experience the Star Wars universe.”
The update includes five new playable species (we spied Bith and Nautolan last time, but it’s also Chiss, Devaronian, and Mirialan), jewelry slots, the 4K texture upgrade, 36 new jewelry sets, vehicle customization, droid engineer perks, the return of the Ranger, and the skill tree revamp meant to allow more paths to the elite professions (for example, Smugglers no longer have to pick both the ranged support and unarmed trees and instead can swap one for trapping).
The patch notes also herald a new referral program (yes, for a rogue server) and stack of gifts for returning players who haven’t played in six or more months. Finally, Life Day has arrived:
“Life Day is upon us! New rewards have been added to the Life Day gift boxes, and a new badge can be claimed from the Life Day trees in Wayfar or Doaba Guerfel. All new for this year’s event is a new city decoration and customization system that has been added for all players to participate in. City Mayors have been granted a special Life Day tree to place in their city. Life Day gift boxes (for you and for a friend) from under the Life Day trees in Wayfar or Doaba Guerfel will include a random ornament box. Once the Mayor has placed their tree in the city, citizens of that city will be able to use their ornaments to decorate the tree. There are hundreds of combinations possible! After Life Day, the decorations will come down, but the tree will remain up.”
Looking ahead, the team reminds players that it’s still working on a complete do-over for the Image Designer profession that includes decorating and event management, decorations for the lot around player houses, unspecified customization plans for player cities, and improved color palettes.
