Your kneejerk answer to this morning’s Daily Grind is probably going to be Star Citizen, and I get that urge. But in reality, most of what people are paying into Star Citizen – the many thousands of dollars – goes to ship sales and other stuff, not the game itself. Our own writers who have played SC in the past can tell you straight up that a normal human doesn’t need to pay in that much – and the average gamer doesn’t.
But I can’t say that for every game; there are plenty of MMORPGs that look cheap up front, but you quickly realize that they are nigh-on unplayable without a whole host of other buyables, like inventory space, extra bags, teleports, content DLC packs, or even an “optional” subscription that ought to make the devs blush.
What would you say is the most expensive MMORPG right now at the top of 2025?
