I’m sorry to report some Daybreak news tonight that sadly won’t come as a shock to most gamers: The studio is sunsetting Just Survive.
“After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset Just Survive on Wednesday, October 24 at 11 a.m. PT,” Daybreak writes. “The excitement of the game’s promise was palpable and its loyal community is still full of ideas for its future. Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness and the current population of the game makes it untenable to maintain.”
Steam purchases and cash shop sales have been disabled as of today. Apparently, some folks may be eligible for a refund on Steam, so definitely check that out.
MMORPG players will recall that Just Survive was originally the zombie survival game known as H1Z1, but during early access it was quickly eclipsed by its now more famous battle royale mode, eventually leading to multiple name changes and a game split that saw the survival-oriented Just Survive mode relegated to the studio’s back burner year by year. It technically never officially launched and received only sporadic love from Daybreak; this past spring, following the bizarre Columbus Nova dust-up and layoffs, rumors that the game was “on its last legs” took form, exacerbated by the ending of the sale of lockboxes in May.
Our sympathies go out to the rank-and-file devs and stalwart players affected by the decision.
