It’s just about time to bring around the new year, and for Final Fantasy XIV that means a new animal-themed kabuto and an accompanying event related to the celebrations from the Far East. Somehow, these things always go wrong, and the upcoming Year of the Rat is no exception to that particular rule as the nezumi bugyo has to deal with overcoming cultural barriers. Since the quest is kicking off in Limsa Lominsa, it probably has something to do with the fact that a group of sailors is not generally fond of lots of rats.

Regardless, players can unlock two new helms for use on any job, as well as a housing decoration and a special firework item. The event kicks off on December 31st and runs until January 14th, 2020, so be ready to celebrate the new year with a nice big pile of rats. If that inspires you to look up cute rat pictures in anticipation, we shan’t judge.
