This is the dawning of… Season 2021. Which doesn’t meter out quite as well as the song I’m referencing, but for fans of Riot Games’ titles, it’s pretty much an astronomical event all the same. This so-called event was effectively a livestreamed announcement event that provided a number of details for launched and in-development games from the studio.

  • In League of Legends, players can look forward to a new jungler known as Viego the Ruined King, vote on one of three different thematics as well as the next champion to be updated, enjoy a new ranked season, and look ahead to a Lunar New Year event featuring “a brand new world where futuristic cityscapes and ancient temples collide.”
  • Teamfight Tactics is cooking up a new mid-set known as the Festival of Beasts that brings a new ranked stage, new champions, new traits, and new Little Legends. After that, there’s another set coming in the spring that promises a “dramatic” setting, a new faster game mode, and the Fates Championship.
  • Riot’s CCG Legends of Runeterra will get its next region, Shurima, with three expansions’ worth of content and features. There are also plans for a co-operative Lab event on January 13th, more champions arriving more frequently to the game, and a new seasonal tournament in February.
  • Finally, League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile and console version of the MOBA, will bring its regional open beta to the Americas in March, while the devs plan to release two champions a month, introduce ARAM mode, and kick off several events. For now, the first official ranked season begins this week.

There’s a big overblown landing page that collects all of these planned updates, while the full Season 2021 livestream can be watched in the embedded video below.
