After endless hemming and hawing and leaks and fuss, Nintendo has finally formally revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 as of this morning, and yes, it’s launching this year.

We don’t have a whole lot of information yet, save the obvious in the video: It’s a much larger device with a different lock-in mechanism for the controllers. Critically, at least some existing Switch games will be compatible:

“Nintendo Switch 2 plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.”

Here’s hoping the MMOs and multiplayer titles on Switch – everything from DC Universe Online to Warframe to Palia – make the cut.

The company aims to say more at its April 2nd Nintendo Direct event, which will be followed up by a whopping 15 Nintendo Switch 2 “experience” events over the course of April to June. In North America, the host cities are New York, LA, Dallas, and Toronto; gamers in Paris, London, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Taipei will also get a crack at it.
