World of Warcraft rockets to Argus in patch 7.3 today

At last year’s BlizzCon, when Blizzard first announced World of Warcraft fans would someday be trekking to Argus, it seemed so distant to many of us that the narrative that bubbled up was more about whether or not Blizz could keep up that sort of cadence, not OMG Argus how cool is that. But here we are, with 7.3 launching today, and even I have to toss in my OMGs, if only because it means we’re that much closer to the next big thing. Or possibly a long pause until the next expansion?

“Following recent events in the Broken Isles, a link has been created between Azeroth and Kil’jaeden’s homeworld of Argus, bringing the Burning Legion closer than ever to destroying Azeroth. In order to stop them once and for all, Illidan and Velen are taking the war directly to the surface of Argus, where they hope to join forces with Alleria, Turalyon, and the Army of the Light to launch an all-out assault on the Legion’s primary base of operations. Board the Vindicaar, a vessel that will serve as your mobile base of operations on Argus, as well as one of your few safe havens on the planet. As you explore Argus, you’ll visit new locations across the planet, experiencing the epic conclusion to the Legion storyline and unlocking new world quests and other content along the way.”

We’ve rounded up some of our 7.3 coverage to date down below along with the survival guide and cinematic trailers and patch notes. Are you diving in for the patch, or holding out for some “and beyond”?

Illidan is perpetually pissed off… and we love him for it.

I un-subbed about 3 months ago after I did everything story-wise that I wanted. I re-subbed for 7.3 and played a bunch today. Sadly, it all felt like just more of the same. And frankly, I felt the writing and voice acting were WAY over the top. Everybody making these long stupid speeches, and all I felt was “meh.” I’m sure I’ll play over the coming weeks, since I already paid for it. But WoW definitely doesn’t have that pull on me that it used to. Which isn’t surprising after 13 years. But sad just the same.

(If MJ is reading this, cover your eyes! LOL)

I stopped playing this when I finished the panda bear expansion. I was able to get the expansion after that for crazy dirt cheap (CE even!) after a friend got two of the CE boxes in and the 2nd person only wanted the goodies from it (esp. the coffee table book). So I got the key for it cheap. I have it tagged to my account but just never fired it up. I have so much other stuff on the plate to play, hard to ever decide if I want to hop back in.

Is the min/max game still a never-ending battle? My main was a Pally, I’d probably be totally lost with all the class changes. :P

I think she would only get testy if you said something disparaging about EQ. WoW is fair game here. :)

Yes, endgame is just a mindless min/max grind. The new grind is legendary weapons nonsense. I cancelled earlier this year. I’ll be back for the next expansion. Homie doesn’t do mindless min/max grinds.

An MMO with a grind? You don’t say!

this expansions end game has been the most fun. The class mounts have some really fun class quests in them allthough, the rep grind to get flying is really annoying

While the game may have some good storylines, the game feels like a grind fest still, not sure what happened but I haven’t enjoyed the stories near as much as just before cataclysm came out. I’d wait for Destiny 2 and then only if that game doesn’t live up to expectations may be look at WoW.

I’ve never played WoW in my life but am dangerously close to buying the expansion for the 100 boost just to tickle my curiosity. Will I have fun on such an old game as a total casual? Or should I save the $50 and put it towards Destiny 2? I’m really torn! I have plenty to play so I just don’t know!

It’s a very easy game for the most part but if you like instanced pvp the battlegrounds are still a lot of fun .

I guess the answer is how casual do you like your casual .

You cannot even compare your 2 options… in wow you will get 10 years worth of content… since you ll never played it, you ll have tons of things to explore.

It may be old but it has a good graphics style and many zones look beautiful. Imo i would chose wow over destiny 2 in your situation

@armsbend WoW has a ton of content but remember that there is no scaling (outside of Legion zones and reoccurring timewalking dungeon weeks), so if you pop your 100 boost and focus on that char, you more or less p*ss away most of those 10 years of content. My advice: level from 1 and save the boost for an alt.

alright, thanks for the advice. its good advice

yeap best thing is to do the 1-110 and explore the game, learn it and then use the level 100 boost :p

Also remember you can make a level 100 trial class and play for a while to see how it plays before you decide to use the boost.

I ended up buying the game last night. As a bonus they are selling the complete wow bpackage (with Legion) for $40 not $50 bucks. I realize I’m one of the few who never bought the original but still – pretty cool.

Thanks again guys I think I’ve decided on a Troll Druid to start off with.

Nice! Have fun and take it slow… enjoy the game and dont rush to the end :)

Druid is a good option. Can play all the roles (tank, heal, melee dps, caster dps) and also is great for open world due to the instant forms and stealth.

I came back for legion and have had a blast. There really is quite a bit to do as a casual. I play casually – i mainly do world quests, world bosses, nether disrupter farming (when up), LFR when it suits me and occasionally do normal mode raids on alt night with the guild. I almost never run dungeons, but that’s an option also. $30 for legion with the boost is a pretty damn good deal too.
