WildStar’s long-awaited free-to-play patch is finally upon us, as Carbine re-launched the game at midnight with a new business model and scads of changes.

WildStar: Reloaded includes many significant improvements and additions to the game, including a client optimization, new tutorial, better lighting, the cash shop, daily rewards, loyalty rewards, a challenge reward track, the Alpha Sanctum solo instance, bigger housing plots, instant transportation, a stat revamp, crafting tweaks, and so much more. You can read up on all of the changes in the patch notes.

Carbine also commissioned a crazy animated three-minute cinematic trailer for the free-to-play launch. Check it out below!

ColdinT MikeMinier goettel That’s an…interesting take on the situation…

Here’s the quote from Carbine (taken from the offical forums) regarding AMD: “On the AMD CPU side (and Intel even) we have a strong suspicion players CPUs are not running at maximum frequency at times due to how we spread out our threads across all your cores(yes we do use every single core you have even if you don’t think we do).  The spreading out of work can cause a lot of the cores to not be doing  a lot of work and ultimately the operating system and/or hardware controller determines what the actual running clock speed of your cores are.  If the cores are seen as not busy it has no problem clocking them down thus slowing everything down.  We’re pretty sure that in particular we’re seeing this issue with AMD and to a lesser extend with Intel.”

yeah, it’s probably my machine though….

MikeMinier There’s literally a 100 page thread on the official forums about optimization (or the lack thereof) I would suggest attempting to post there, as otherwise you’re just going to get a bunch of people telling you “it must be your machine”

(this thread providing a perfect example lol)

MikeMinier Well, that sucks. Haven’t done so for a while, I just checked some ALT-F1’s in Illium. At rest, it hovers just over 100(!) FPS, and I couldn’t get it to drop below 60. That’s a huge improvement since launch, hope you get yours sorted.

ColdinT brett2 Sure, that’s true in a lot of cases, I agree. But I’ve seen some very well thought out posts by people who have received suspensions. I received one myself, despite receiving a number of comments from people saying my breakdown of the history and why this has failed so badly being very well stated. The company is in full damage control mode right now because of an extremely high level of dissatisfaction. Censoring objective criticism is simply poor form and in no way helps them. It just makes them look like they want to only have positive comments on their forums, and they’ll remove or suspend anyone criticising their lack of planning, competence, or ability to learn from every single patch they’ve done.

brett2 People always get banned on forums, because it’s not criticism. It’s almost always people that are simply being very inflammatory.

It’s an absolute shame that they failed their re-launch so dramatically. They’re handing out forum bans to people who are criticising their incompetence. I’ve been able to log in twice since launch, and one of those sessions was 10 minutes before they brought the game down, and back into a queue that escalated from 1hr50 to 2hr30 and kept climbing. Their testing and release processes are abysmal. Their quality output in terms of reliability is atrocious. They have had maybe one patch since launch that didn’t result in hours to days of downtime, server-side patches or client-side patches, not to mention how many times they’ve broken classes or screwed content. But, when you outline their history objectively, they are too brittle to accept it and have been suspending folks instead. BusterCasey is clearly too emotional to be a forum moderator and unable to see the difference between objective criticism and trolling. Carbine Studios is at best a B-Team of a studio. Utterly not worth the time to reinvest into this game with how poorly they respect their product and their players.

Wildstar, Thayd, about 30 minutes ago.  Notice how little of each gpu is being used?  I tried it with SLI disabled, and it still uses barely any of the gpu’s power.  Notice how little of the cpu is being used?  That my friends is NOT a flaw in my rig, that is a flaw in the game design.
