EVE Valkyrie will be getting loot boxes

What's two times zero?

There’s really no two ways about this particular tidbit of news. CCP is adding loot boxes to EVE Valkyrie, according to a recent interview. The boxes are expected to drop about every two battles on average, with each box containing random items including cosmetic items and experience boosters. If all of that sounds like exactly what you would expect from the statement “CCP is adding loot boxes EVE Valkyrie,” well, you’ve done this dance a few times.

There’s no word at this point about said boxes being added to a microtransaction store, but all things considered you can probably mark it as highly likely at the very least. You can also get at least one box for completing the in-game tutorial, so that’s added motivation to learn how to fly your craft. Those of you who went into a spontaneous rage-seizure upon seeing the term “loot boxes,” of course, can jump straight to the comments.

Gosh, you don’t think this might be tied to making the game no longer require a VR headset, could it?

If its just cosmetic stuff and people rage over that, then they have serious issues hehe

For Valkyrie, why the heck shouldn’t they charge dumb people for random ship hats? I am surprised there isn’t a RMT version of this already implemented. Do it for EVE Online as well as long as it remains cosmetics only or has some hook into the economy that makes it somewhat fair like skill injections.

Do the loot boxes contain an RNG chance at getting a hat?

EVE Valkyrie was always a garbage “VR” game. It took almost no advantage of the advantages of VR in order to try to cater to the most amount of platforms to get the most amount of sales and ended up being completely uninteresting as a result. The AAA game price tag didn’t do them any favors, either. So them removing the VR requirement is just them doubling down on trying to reach the most amount of people possible for more sales.

Enter: Loot Crates.

These days CCP is arguably the most scummy company when it comes to most of their games. Exclusivity contracts, game pricing, cosmetic gouging and now loot crates (which will invariably end up in the store) just too insane. It’s like they couldn’t get away with Monoclegate in EVE and have focused all their scummy business tactics in every other game they create.

You’d have a much harder time naming the smattering of developers that are not scumbags today.

Once someone getting unto slippery slope of making money on their own market start to dictate rules. So, yeah. On the other hand, cute little fluffies never made it – they were eaten before they did anything noticeable.

loot box =/= lock box in this case so I don’t see any reason to rage yet. I will reserve the option of raging later if things turn out otherwise.
