City of Titans introduces its costume designer while teasing character creation

Table this for now. Or later.

We haven’t seen the character creation for City of Titans just yet, but you know that’s going to be an important part of the game. You can’t have a proper superhero title without proper superhero costumes, after all. The latest piece on the official site is interviewing one of the development team’s costume designers and talking about the development behind the scenes, but both it and the video accompanying it promise that the actual creation preview is coming very soon.

Kayla “Z06” Bianchi talks mostly about her own gaming history and preferences in the little interview, but you can also see some of her work for both the concept art and interior level design. If all you’re interested in is the prospect of seeing how you can make your character, check out the video just below. (It’s a teaser, not a full trailer, so be fairly warned.)

Always exciting to hear about character customization. I saw a weight slider tucked away in there, does that mean players will be able to make really bulky (but not necessarily super muscular) characters?

You can make fat fat heroes. We’ve got screenshots to prove it. You can increase bulk independent of muscle definition.

I love the worn/torn/used look of the costume material. Which kinda bugs me. The world visuals need the same thing. I know ive stated this before, about the textures of the ground, buildings, walls, etc are all just too clean and perfect. There is just going to be too huge of a contrast between the realism of the costumes materials, and the non-realism of the worlds materials. Meh.

For characters to feel grounded in a virtual world, the characters need to look like they are being rendered by the same engine that the world is being rendered with.

Still, nice graphics from what I can tell from the ridiculous quick teaser.

And Im sure that black panther looking mask and the timing of the upcoming movie, is purely coincidence, and not an attempt to ride on someone else’s coattails :P

That’s The Bradford Boxer, fka Rottweiler before MWM found another comic character with that name. He’s been in a demo clip or two before, but this is the most detailed look they’ve given us so far.

Considering that the design for the helmet predates the movie by several years – yes, definitely a coincidence.

As for world textures – much, much too soon to be criticizing those. Details like being worn are late stage polish. Not to mention all the shader work that goes into a much more tuned, atmospheric rendering of materials in world. The ‘too clean’ observation is accurate, but premature.

im not saying its identical, not in the least. Im also not saying they copied it.

Im simply saying making it the headliner for the teaser… right now.. out of all the possible costume sets they could have picked… its just awfully coincidental.

Hell, picking it, over anything else, could have even been totally subconscious with all the black panther marketing going on right now.

Dug From the Earth: your Black Panther comment and Legend of Vinny T’s ‘Bradford Boxer/Rottweiler’ comment aside, my first reaction to that costume was ‘A merge of Batman and Bane? What would that be called, Batbane or Baneman?’… and then the video was over, I read the comments, and I still see that more than Black Panther, though now I can also see Black Panther as well.

Anyway, always happy to see more from MWM!
