The Division 2 is changing itemization and mechanical balance in the Dark Zone

This could be darker.

The planned raid for The Division 2 is being pushed back until May, because the developers have something else to focus on first. Yes, it’s that ever-present bugbear of balance, and it’s resulting in a big set of changes being tested on the game’s test server according to the most recent state of the game. Some of those changes are focused chiefly around PvP in general, like normalizing equipment to GS 500 rather than closer to the middle of the available numbers. But the majority of them are focused around the loops of gameplay and rewards in the Dark Zone.

Both versions of the zone will drop more contaminated loot and less clean loot to support the extraction playstyle. Changes are being made like splitting the zone into just two brackets to prevent empty Dark Zone expeditions, and players will be able to hold more contaminated loot at one time. Landmarks are also getting cooldowns added, and the Dark Zone will reward GS 515 items, making it a source of better rewards with greater danger in acquisition. Check out the whole state of the game summary and test the changes on the PTS, if you’re so inclined.

PvP system says normalized, but it’s anything but. There are sets of gear that will one-shot people, and sets of gear that hit like a wet noodle. ilevel being normalized does nothing to balance this.

So, I was actually excited to get to end-game and play this as a pvp shooter, ’cause I love FPS games. But there’s one 4vs4 battleground, and the dark zone which basically is just gank or be ganked, no real battles.

So I quit. But fine game in any case, maybe with some more pvp battlemodes I’ll be back.

It’s not nearly perfect but the devs are listening and reacting with incremental changes (some better, some worse), rapidly. Reading the sub, people went from very upset yesterday to giving constructive feedback and having some faith that it’ll get balanced out today. The fact that Massive launched the Player Test Server and are actively responding to concerns says a lot about how much they want this game to be successful.

It’s weird to me that we feel the need to give praise because a developer actually communicates and responds to thier customer base concerns but there ya go.

The game has been out roughly 6 weeks and I can’t agree with this more. Track record alone shows they have tremendous faith for the IP and they’ll do it justice. It’s been out 6 weeks and I feel like a ton of the Post-SoTG meltdown was due to people not understanding this weeks issues were PvP/DZ based, and nothing else… Next week I assume we’ll hear and have discussion over PvE. There are simple fixes to be made to make both parties happy (high chance/guaranteed chance of 500+ gs items dropping in Chall+ missions or some variation of that). And I’m actually glad they delayed the raid until more gear balance/viability has been addressed. I’m excited for the raid, but I can wait another 2-3 weeks.

Yet the DZ occupied is still bullshit I mean there are rogue people and the turrets by the doors don’t shoot them and they just wait at the door to spawn kill and when you die you lose one whole level that’s stupid

I’ve always found it incredibly odd when predominantly PVE based games make sweeping changes based on PVP.. I mean seriously is it not about time we separated PVE and PVE stats and abilities so that one no longer impacts the other? ESPECIALLY when the Dark zone player (and pvp’ers in general for that matter) are such a minority inthe scheme of things.

Some of these changes are questionable because they are essentially requireing EVERYONE to go pvp in order to get the best gear.. that is a change that has the potential to alienate a lot of players.

Yeah a lot of us are upset over the 515 items being exclusive to Dark Zone because PvE players don’t want to play PvP, but they said that better GS will drop from the raid. However that leaves the problem, what about the PvP players now they have to play PvE. It’s like the keep trying to force players into content they don’t want to play.

It’s like they keep flipping the scale.

I’m not sure thats any better to be honest. As that just falls into the old MMO trope of the only thing to do at endgame is Raid or PVP, which mmos have been trying to get away from for the last several years especially as many people do not play in groups by choice yet are still entitled to a whole game they pay for.

But that said I think they would be incredibly silly not to ensure there was at least one specific PVE method whereby you could get the highest GS score gear too so via the Raid would be a start if nothing else.

But yeah your right forcing the pvp’ers to pve is no better either, they are a little all over the place in thier plans atm, which is why we would all be better off if they statistically and gear wise were kept separate instead of trying to make everyone be and do everything..

After spending 6 min running circles around a couple of tipped over shopping carts while filling a boss fill of rounds I realized that this game isn’t for me.
