World of Warcraft: Classic is successfully letting some players reconnect with old friends

We remember, to our detriment.

This is just plain nice to see. Regardless of anything else going on in World of Warcraft: Classic, it’s good to see people finding old friends and re-establishing connections that had been lost with time. A piece on Kotaku dives into the community rebuilding connections, laughing at the silliness of old drama even between players that used to be locked into bitter fights over things like loot and raid groups. That’s a full-on positive effect of having WoW Classic around.

Of course, it’s not perfect; the article is spotlighting a specific Discord group dedicated to helping old friends reconnect, so it is entirely player-run. And some of the players interviewed have noted that friends have returned to the game only to leave shortly thereafter, since the game is… well, still the vintage grind from years ago. But hearing about someone reconnecting with surrogate fathers from 15 years ago is just plain heartening, no matter what. And please, do let us know if you’ve reconnected with any old friends in the game if you’ve gone back.
