Allods Online adds new story content, overhauls strongholds and crafting in Soul of Darkness expansion

Dang, it’s been a really, really long time since we talked about Allods Online here on MOP – almost a year, in fact, when it was still working on Destination Horizon. Now, the global edition of the game is getting a whole new expansion called The Soul of Darkness.

My.Games dropped a big preview of what to expect on the official site this morning, promising a continuation of the update 8.0 storyline (“between five and eight hours of gameplay”), culminating with a final battle in the multi-boss dungeon Nihaz’s Citadel. But there’s lots more to the update, including a major overhaul for stronghold upgrade quests and baddies, a buff to spark experience, adjustments to Dragonic Aspect, tweaks to competitive seasonal rewards, new Snow Resort quests, artifacts, and crafting.

“The maximum level of professions will increase to 90, and you will no longer need materials previously crafted in the Forge (which required Enchanted Dust) to craft current equipment. Ordinary resources such as Ore, Leather, Cloth and Souls will suffice, and you can get these in the game at the maximum level or just trade them from other players.”

“Artifacts owned will fade and partially weaken, but won’t lose their abilities. It will be possible to craft both faded and current artifacts, but their crafting price will differ. If necessary, faded artifacts can be turned back into resources (100% Fate Elixirs and Dust of Creation returned), which can then be used to create current artifacts. You’ll still be able to get resources for crafting current artifacts in various activities, and you’ll even get some of the resources you need as you progress through the storyline. Equipment items can now be obtained on battlefields too. In the new classical raid, you’ll be able to get equipment items from the next layer that will immediately have 100/100 stats, but can’t be upgraded using insignias until the next layer is unlocked.”

They even did a trailer. What? Nice!

Wow, Allods Online, haven’t thought about that game in a long time… Who else watched that trailer and was waiting for the line, “All your base is belong to us, make your time! hahahaha!” ;)

This makes no sense. You don’t like the Astral concept which is fantasy, and you then proceed to complain that the game is “too normal”?

Do you feel the same walking through the european Stormwind in WoW? or the native american Thunder Bluff? What about the japanese Darnassus?

It makes perfect sense,

It doesn’t.

the whole Astral concept is basically Outlands and I hate Outlands for this very same reason.

I didn’t ask, but ok. We’re debating if the Astral is fantasy enough, it is fantasy enough.

When you live in a city that has literally the same buildings like in Allods’ one faction, you will understand what I’m talking about, clearly you aren’t. So don’t talk about things you haven’t the slightest idea about.

1- Chill. 2- All fantasy games have architecture based on real life. I don’t know what you smoked to see as anything different, but you’re clearly just biased.

If they release a “fantasy” game with wizard and dragons in Rio De Janeiro, will you call that fantasy?

Uh…yes? Because it changes how you interact with the world. Again, most fantasy games take HEAVY inspiration from real life. It’s magic, it has dragons, it’ll probably change how cities and people are interacted on as time goes by. It’s fantasy.

And yeah Daranssus, Thunder Bluff and Stormwind look just the right amount of fantasy.

Subjective. The only reason they look that way is because they have humanoid cows, purple pointy-ear tall people and raiders walking about in oversized gear that burns like a streetlamp.

It’s exactly the Rio the Janeiro situation you illustrated. Full of fantastic creatures and powers, but it’s basically a western european fortress city.

The fact you doesn’t like Allods doesn’t bother me. It’s acquired taste.

What gave me the weirds was that your defense of your point of view is completely flawed, considering that the same issues Allods has with fantasy is present in any fantasy game or art whatsoever. What do you think Gilneas is?

Today i learned that DBZ and Pokemon are not fantasy because they have cities in them.

I concur, you do sound pretty pathetic here.

This game is beautiful.

And that’s it. So what if we get a new expansion? It’ll stay a mess if they don’t fix their cashshop shenanigans.

Also, i’m not someone who likes playing games were you have 500k hp.

What does ‘fantasy’ mean to you? Typically for me, what you seem to be implying is ‘fantasy’ is actually Western European fantasy that you’ve just gotten very used to through childhood exposure onward.

Did it hurt to pull all this subjective ruleset out of your ass?

Reader
Bruno Brito

I’m not the one making rules out of thin air to fit my argument.

Are you like this on real life too? Do you go around telling people that what they like isn’t fantastic or cyberpunk or anything?

Reader
Bruno Brito

Wait, what? How did we get from A to B? I’m a elitist because i’m calling you on your BS for trying to gatekeep what fantasy is?

Jesus christ man, those are some mighty straws you’re grasping at.

And in the end when the going gets tough, you wanna back out…

“back out”, “going gets tough”

Huh? Dude, what the fuck are you on about. This is a fucking game site. Are you on drugs?

What gave you that right? Who appointed you the ruler of Right and Wrong?

The reality is that you self-appointed yourself and that somehow gave you the idea like you’ve been touched by some divine wisdom and whatever you say is right and whatever anyone you don’t agree with is wrong.

You spent and entire tirade talking about how the games YOU said were fantasy and how Allods is not. We proven to you they are, yet all your arguments are “YoU’rE eLiTiSt YaDaA yAdDa”

Are you really that devoid that you have nothing better to do with your life than arguing on MMORPG websites about useless things. Like my opinion on Allods art style is gonna cause WW3 if you don’t stop my evil plot before that time…

You need help if you think we debating with you is some kind of ploy for WW3. You’re clearly deluded.

I REALLY recommend you to go check a psychiatrist. You went on a full blown meltdown just because someone disagreed with your opinion and asked why you held that. If discussions are too much for you, maybe you should lay off the internet, uh?

Best of luck on your mental care.

I wonder how your condescending attitude has been allowed on this website without you being banned yet.

Who knows. Maybe because not everyone has the same opinion as you, and the world doesn’t revolve around you.

I was the one who first expressed my opinion, you and that other guy felt like if you don’t respond and start an argument you will die.

We all tried to debate you politely. You were the one who went full passive-aggressive.

Take it to your psychiatrist. We’re not obligated to deal with your anger issues.

Your examples aren’t all exclusively Western European, but they’re also just remixes of existing real world cultures. I’m not sure how Allods is doing something so egregious here, even if lazy.

Like really, Lord of the Rings is Britishisms to the maximum.

Reader
Malcolm Swoboda

I said Allods is lazy. I’m not contesting that part.

Reader
Bruno Brito

Dwarven culture is heavily Celtic, with some Nordic touches.

Allods being lazy is one thing. You’re not understanding that any fantasy scenery pulls from real life. Association is something extremely important for art, because it’s how human beings think and learn.

Gondor and Mordor don’t look that British.

Subjective. They look extremely european to me.

Allods: Shadowlands.

I’m just here surprised they did an English dubbed trailer!
