Rebranding is one of those things that always feels like a bigger deal than it might be but also easy to under-sell by accident. So what does the changing of the name from Ascent: Infinite Realm to Elyon actually mean for the game now that it’s happened? Well, we know that it still seems to be planned for a launch hereabouts at some point, but we can only glean a little bit from the confirmation. Maybe it’s an all right thing.
Other beta news? Yeah, that tracks.
- The MMORTS Starborne has gone into open beta! If you’ve been longing for some MMORTS action, you… well, you have always had limited options, but now it’s slightly more.
- Valorant is heading into closed beta starting on April 7th, if you feel like what you dearly need right now is a team-based shooter to test out.
- Alpha one testing for Ashes of Creation is apparently on track for arrival in May, so keep your eyes peeled for further developments.
- Last but not least, there’s still no word on when it’s actually arriving, but the PC launch for Phantasy Star Online 2 is still on track for spring this year. The game is currently in open beta on the Xbox One.
Betawatch has not rebranded at all, I’ll note. In fact, it’s still the same as it’s ever been, encouraging people to check out the list just below and let us know if something has jumped test phases without us noticing. That’s not rebranding, that’s just our brand. We’ve been here for years.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
