Warframe previews the upcoming hard mode of the Steel Path

Get metal.

Have you cleared the entire solar system map in Warframe and feel there are no challenges left for you? For the moment, you may be largely right. But the upcoming addition of the Steel Path will change that. It’s a new harder series of challenges that will test veteran players to their limits, offering players a new chance to engage with higher-end scaling. It is not, however, meant as any sort of mandatory endgame content; it’s there for fun and cosmetics, with more details set to come out in the near future.

Elsewhere, the game’s own Rebecca Ford sat down to talk extensively on the Quite Shallow YouTube channel regarding toxicity, burnout, the game’s partner program, and so forth. It’s a lengthy chat covering a lot of topics, but it’s well worth a listen for what she has to say on various points, like her explanation of some of what leads to toxicity for PvE gameplay (“In PvE games, I think… burnout contributes to hate-playing in a way that’s much, much more sinister, because it’s a matter of the opponent is no longer, you know, the game, it’s the devs for not meeting a standard of content pacing and content quality.”) If you’ve got the time, take a look just below.

That interview she did with Shy was really great

They’re running another Public Test Cluster this weekend to let people try out the Steel Path, and one of the things Rebb talks about in the interview is how useful the Test Cluster feedback & data was when they first tried it for Railjack Revised, so I’m optimistic it’ll launch in a good state. I’m expecting the difficulty to be comparable to when a node turns up as the 3rd mission in a Sortie, so the ground-based missions should be a good but doable challenge – my one concern is the map’s Archwing missions, if those are included.

Rebb did an impromptu Test Cluster stream to answer some questions about the Steel Path. Based on the current test build:
– It won’t include the Derelict, it will include the Void, the Index, the Sedna Arenas, and from the look of it Archwing missions.
– Steel Path missions give more affinity, more resources, and more mods.
– There are level 100 Steel Path Bounties at Cetus and Fortuna.
– You don’t have to redo the tasks to unlock Junctions, but you do have to defeat the Steel Path Specter at each Junction to pass it.
– While playing the Steel Path there’s a cooldown on using gear wheel items such as Energy Restores.
– Completing each planet/region awards both a decoration and an emote.

I’m sure some people will like it. I’m sure others will complain it’s not hardcore enough. Personally, I have less than no interest in it. I plan to do exactly what I’ve already done with Arbitrations and and Conclave. Which is to completely avoid those missions, while silently resenting the fact that there are a handful of mods and cosmetics I could use locked behind it.

I also avoid Conclave like the plague, but never resented it – if some players enjoy it, then good for them! At least the rewards for Steel Path are purely cosmetic (plus a bit of Mastery xp), it just has an increased drop rate of the mods already available from those nodes rather than new mods.

I didn’t resent Conclave specifically, I disliked the fact that exclusive mods (some of which have been PVE usable for a while) were locked behind PVP. They mostly removed that with the current Nightwave – a bunch of the remaining conclave mods were upgraded to be functional in the normal game, and nearly all of them are added to the Nightwave cred store rotation now.

Arbitration isn’t as bad just because I think all of the mods are tradeable. Maybe the Captura scenes too, if I could find anyone interested in selling them. I have an option to get them that doesn’t require dealing with the “not at all fun for me” Arbitration drones and death mechanics. :/
