Minecraft-built MMO Hegemony releases the Traders from the East expansion on September 6

Hegemony, the self-described “classic” sandbox MMORPG built upon the framework of Minecraft, is expanding. As in literally releasing an expansion. Or at least an expansion-sized update. Whatever you want to call it, just be sure to refer to it by name: Traders from the East.

This large-scale update will introduce a variety of new things like 21 new quests, four new ranks, the Leatherworker and Agility skills, and five new locations. Players can also expect some adjustments to melee and ranged combat, rebalancing for mobs as well as new mobs, a new endgame encounter, a retainer rework, and rental updates with over 800 new properties to rent thanks to the addition of new layering tech. The party piece of the expansion, however, is what Hegemony is calling the addition of a historical event system, which basically pits a caravan escort team against a looter team in an asymmetrical PvP-safe minigame.

The objective, of course, is to either raid the caravan and loot its contents successfully or get it to its destination, depending on which team players are on. All players will have just five life, with one hit deducting one life while in basic gear. Escort players are able to regenerate life when near pack animals while looters are unable to regenerate life but will have more range-based weapons and can use the terrain to their advantage. As checkpoints are crossed, players will get new gear that mitigates or deals more damage based on personal or team performance. The team that succeeds will receive a new currency that can be used to buy unique new items brought by the titular traders from the East, including silk, gunpowder, paper and the ability to craft fireworks.

The whole kit n’ kaboodle will be releasing on Sunday, September 6th, at 7:00 p.m. EDT. You can take a look at a number of provided screenshots as well as a trailer below for more.
