Kakao is a hard company to cover, largely because the gaming segment we care about is only a tiny piece of the sprawling Korean company’s portfolio, which ranges from music to ecommerce to an Uber clone and even a blockchain platform. But it’s also got investments in everything from Tencent to Krafton, and that means its games division is taking some credit for its western stewardship of Black Desert and forecasting Elyon Ascent Infinite Realm, which we already know is releasing in Korea next month.
In addition to reporting a sharp 54% year-over-year revenue increase, driven largely by mobile title Guardian Tales, this quarter the company noted “flat” sales for Black Desert sales in the Europe and North America. It also talks up Krafton’s Elyon, which if we’re reading the slide right is at least tentatively releasing through Kakao here in the west in the second half of 2021.
MMO Culture reminds us that the upcoming ArcheAge 2 will also soon be under the Kakao banner as well, thanks to Kakao’s investment in XLGAMES earlier this year.
