It’s been a long time since a brand-new MMORPG really deserved a GOTY award – in fact, my my reckoning, it was was 2016, when Black Desert ran away with it. Maybe that will change next year, if New World or Elyon is as huge as we think they could be, but in the meantime, our MMO of the Year award goes to the best MMO overall, not just the best of the new.
Still, that doesn’t mean there weren’t any new titles this year worth mulling over, especially if we look to MMO-adjacent titles too. So for this Leaderboard poll, we’re included a wide range of newish MMORPGs, MMOs, multiplayer sandboxes, battle royale games, MOBAs, and shooters – all the newish stuff we covered here on MOP in 2020. You get three votes on this one! What was the best new MMO or online game of 2020?
