The Daily Grind: Would you play EverQuest Next or Landmark if Daybreak revived them?

Starting again.

I know the big buzz for the EverQuest franchise is the potential for EverQuest 3, given that EG7 has been pitching it to investors. I’d actually love to see another entry in the IP, and I’d like to see what modern Daybreak is capable of because this is a company that hasn’t actually launched any new games since its corporate spin-out in 2015.

But also I wanted EverQuest Next and Landmark. A lot. EverQuest Next was promising a lot of the mechanics that are super popular in MMORPGs right now; it was ahead of its time, had it worked. And Landmark… well, I’m very salty about how Daybreak dumped Landmark and its customers overboard there. So what I’d like to see, as much as a possible EQ3, is a revival of these two products. EQ3 has been teased for years and years and gone nowhere, but Landmark actually existed. I’d just as soon see them revived and redeveloped for the modern era.

Am I alone here? Would you play EverQuest Next or Landmark if Daybreak revived them? What would they need to do differently to meet your current MMO expectations?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
