MMOs You’ve Never Heard Of: IdleRune, Don’t Die in the West, Ikariam

Welcome back to another quick roundup of MMOs and MMO-adjacent multiplayer titles you’ve (probably) never heard of! This time I’m the one steering this tour boat through the rapids of undiscovered MMO gaming – the Lewis to Bree’s Clark. I sort of assume she’s the Clark. Clark was the smarter one, right?

IdleRune – This 2-D MMORPG indie effort hearkens back to classic MMO titles while offering what it calls “intense AFK gameplay” including combat training, skilling, and boss battles. According to a Reddit post, the game is just a month old and is single-player only right now, but multiplayer features are planned later. It’s playable in early access to Patreon subscribers but plans a wider free-to-play early access launch December 1st.

Don’t Die in the West – This self-described “open-world cowboy-life RPG” from Funday Games lets up to four players come together to build their own ranch, explore the prairie, and become either heroic cowboys or notorious outlaws. The game launched on Steam early access at the beginning of November where it’s so far received “Mostly Positive” user reviews, and as you can see in the footage below, it’s cute as a button.

Ikariam – This one has actually been around for a while – since 2011 according to a launch trailer – but Gameforge’s isometric strategy MMORPG set in ancient Greece is still getting updates, the most recent of which has expanded the pantheon of gods, introduced the mythology field of research, and added a new Shrine of Olympus building.
