Releasing 30 expansions is a significant milestone for any MMORPG, and few others can claim that crown, including EverQuest, which has released the Laurion’s Song expansion this week, which invites players into a long-closed realm and an inn of forgotten heroes.
“A door appears in the Plane of Tranquility. The heroes of Norrath walk through to find a warm and cozy-looking building. Light from the windows illuminates a clearing in a forest. Music and voices as well as the tantalizing smell of cooking meat and mead drift on the air. The inn’s presence invites adventurers to rest and revel after exhausting and dangerous exploits.”
Laurion’s Song brings a number of expected expack bells and whistles like a new level cap, new zones, new raids, more quests, and additional abilities and items, but it also introduces an Alternate Personas system that lets players change their class without having to reroll a new character. Weaving through the expansion is an inn with doors that lead to heroic memories and points in time and a story about the fraying of the Realm of Heroes.
