New World announces holiday event kickoff December 12, talks performance and bugs in latest video

Christmas returns to New World next week – or rather I should say, the Winter Convergence Festival: “Holiday cheer spreads across Aeternum once more as Winter Convergence blankets the Eternal Isle on December 12, 2023 through January 9, 2024,” Amazon says. “This year’s festival features changes to Winter Village Gifts, Gleamite Meteors, and rewards based on player feedback.”

The announcement post explains that the studio felt last year’s event required a bit too much fussing, so players will have to visit fewer winter villages and can pick up more presents and gift sacks at a time. The event also features the return of the Winter Warrior world raid boss and a little tease too: “An unknown phenomenon has increased the frequency of Gleamite Meteors around the world,” the studio says.

In other New World news, in the latest Forged in Aeternum video, Amazon creative director David Verfaillie presides – quite literally because of the chair they gave him – over a four-person panel of engineers who address ongoing technical improvements underway in the MMO; they talk about performance and desync issues, scale testing, and even bug squishing.
