Guild Wars 2’s Skywatch Archipelago took a lot of flak early on for being a creative rehash of existing worlds and assets, but Amnytas – the other massive zone added in the Secrets of the Obscure expansion – is truly spectacular. The sheer scale of the buildings and landscaping is breathtaking, and the detail of the lore bits inside are a treat for narrative fans.
That’d be my personal pick for best zone, though I suspect by the time this piece comes out, I’ll be rapt with Umbar and want to change my mind. Let’s hear some more that deserve the nom. What was the best new zone added to an MMO in 2023?
