Albion Online previews its new journal-themed achievement system, Albion Journal

Are the hardcore PvP fans of Albion Online going to be entranced with a new feature called the Albion Journal? Probably not phrased that way, but the real answer is too bad because it’s most definitely coming in the July 22nd update. Plus, this is the kind of feature that everyone can get something out of.

“The Albion Journal is an achievement system designed to challenge players to explore Albion’s many gameplay areas,” Sandbox Interactive’s new dev blog explains. “For new players, this acts as a guide with incentives to explore the various activities available in the game. Veterans, meanwhile, are encouraged to complete the most difficult achievements for truly exclusive rewards.”

You could see it as just another achievement system, but it also includes a built-in mission tracker that might remind you of Guild Wars 2’s. It’ll keep track of where you are in various areas of gameplay and prod you along, something that can certainly help steer players who feel a bit lost in sandboxes that don’t have guided questlines. And of course, completing PvE and PvP content through the journal will unlock rewards, including currencies, maps, tomes, learning points, cosmetics, and mounts. They’re themed, too; for example, economic activities will unlock skins that let you throw money on the ground. I’m not making that up.

“The wardrobe skin is a very fancy coat that lets you throw some of your actual Silver on the ground. The elite version throws even more money away – you can easily afford it.”
