SWTOR and SWG Legends fans mourn the death of James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader

Star Wars fans joined cinema and theater fans last night to mourn the loss of James Earl Jones, whom nerds knew best as the sonorous void of Darth Vader. The actor’s rep announced last night that Jones had passed away at the age of 93.

MMO players in Star Wars games have a long history of toasting the lives of the actors from the franchise when they pass on, and Jones will be no different.

As I type this, the Star Wars Galaxies Legends devs have erected a temporary monument in the middle of Mos Eisley, Tatooine, with both a hologram of Darth Vader and a statue reading “RIP James Earl Jones.” When I swung by for a screencap early this morning, a respectable crowd had already gathered. Given past events, we assume a more permanent memorial will be installed in the future.

Meanwhile, over in Star Wars The Old Republic, fans have organized two formal events: one tonight at 8 p.m. EDT on Tatooine and one at the same time on Yavin IV. Both events take place on the Star Forge server.
