Here’s how New World’s PvP scene is improving with Aeternum next week

If New World’s PvP layout was any kind of draw for or bar to your enjoyment of the game, you’re going to want to take a look at Amazon’s newest dev blog because in Aeternum, PvP is getting a bit of a glow-up in the form of the new free-for-all PvP map, the Cursed Mists. The devs discuss the mode’s playtesting so far; apparently, testers stumbled into 1990s-era issues like PvE players healing PvPers across the zone border and “hilarious” friendly fire and mutual kills.

But the testing did lead Amazon to make some changes ahead of the proper launch. “We want to discourage massive murder balls of allied players. There’s always going to be collusion, but we don’t want to make it easy,” the studio says.

“We implemented a new free-for-all system that eliminates all group, Company, and Faction ties. Even if you’re fighting alongside friends, it’s very easy to accidentally harm or kill one another. We also implemented a new crowd control system that keeps players from lingering in large packs for too long. Lastly, loot chests function like normal resources. Once looted, they’re unavailable to all other players until the respawn.”

The takeaway is that Amazon is hoping “easy access and bountiful spoils tempt even the staunchest of PvE players to take a dip in the pool” as Cursed Mists is “one of three ways to acquire new 700+ gear, and potentially the best option for solo players.”

Worth noting is that Cursed Mists isn’t the only PvP feature of Aeternum and its associated update; Cutlass Keys has also seen a revamp with a bigger zone and population cap.
