The sunsetted cyberpunk MMO Face of Mankind doesn’t just have a spiritual successor; it’s also getting a rogue server as well. Just in case one version of an old game shuffling about isn’t enough, in comes Face of Mankind: Empire Rising, a fan-run version that seeks to “rebuild the game from the ground up, fix a lot of engine related issues, and modernize the game for 2025.”
The operators of Empire Rising recently posted a follow-up announcement that renamed the game to Community of Mankind and outlined plans for two versions of the MMO: Empire Rising will be the revamped multiplayer title built from a version before Fall of the Dominion that strips away premium cash shop functions, while Classic is a single-player version that promises 21 worlds to explore.
The announcement also provided an extremely rough outline for testing phases for Empire Rising, with a website and forums coming online in the next two weeks, followed by network tests, alphas, and a closed beta sometime on indeterminate dates after that. From there the fan devs plan open beta in the second quarter of 2025, release in the third quarter of that same year, and then launch of Classic at some point after Empire Rising releases.
