Path of Exile 2 warns of launch queues and server issues as preorders surpass one million

Man, I wouldn’t want to be an RPG or MMO launching right about now because everything’s about to get wrecked by Path of Exile 2.

“We’ve just reached 1 million Early Access redemptions,” Grinding Gear Games announced late last night. “The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access is far beyond anything we could have ever predicted. However we want to be upfront with you all and let you know there may very well be queues over the weekend.”

In a brief video message to players, GGG’s Jonathan Rogers says that “sales are still increasing” far beyond the million players that GGG was originally prepared for, server-capacity-wise.

“We’ve already ordered way more cloud capacity, and those servers will be coming online very soon, but I do have some concerns about issues with the backend,” he warns. “We quite frankly don’t know what our backend services are going to be able to handle as we go above a million users. […] We never expected things to go this big during the EA. […] If we do run into server issues at launch, just know that we’re going to be working as hard as we can to solve them.”

In other words, expect an exciting weekend with server demons, and be prepared to go touch some grass. Or snow, depending.

Path of Exile 2 officially launches into early access this afternoon at 2 p.m. EST; PC downloading is already available. (I was able to start downloading on Steam as of this morning, so I guess it’s working on Steam too, not just the standalone PC client.)
