If Blizzard was hoping that the Diablo IV 2025 roadmap without an expansion was going to pass by without a riot, the studio certainly is learning differently this past week. Passionate players and even Blizzard’s former president loudly denounced the roadmap as short-sighted, a response that’s prompted a vocal defense of sorts from the dev team.
As Wowhead reported, Blizzard’s Director of Social & Content Marketing Adam Fletcher took to social media to push back against the criticism, hinting that there is more in the works than the studio felt comfortable sharing.
“As the roadmap progresses, a few less details are fully laid out so it gives us a bit of wiggle room as teams are still working on items,” he wrote. “Separately, the team is putting in a ton of effort on some big things as we had to expansion. I’m pretty amped and I wish I could scream from the rooftops on some of the plans.”
Fletcher asserted that the roadmap is not “a totality of everything that is coming” and will be updated as more content and features are revealed. In a recent interview with Game File, Rod Fergusson also said that he wrote out a 10-year roadmap for the online ARPG.
Even so, these words of reassurance were met with stony attitudes with many fans. “That two-year anniversary tag hit me like a brick. Two years already, and this is all we have to show,” said one player. Another fan snarked that the roadmap’s repeated phrase “and more” was “doing a lot of heavy lifting here.”
