There are a number of reasons why someone would want to play a simulated old-school MMORPG without actually, you know, playing an existing real one. Perhaps you don’t have the time to sink hours into progress. Maybe your friend group has aged out of MMOs or is too young to hold the attention span an older title would require. Or maybe you just missed the boat of ye olden dayes. Regardless of what column you may or may not fit in to, Burgee Media’s Erenshor is hoping to provide some of that old MMO gaming sensation in a single-player package with its official early access release this week.
“[T]here’s always something to do in Erenshor without feeling the pressure of having to keep up with a community of real players or getting left behind. Play on your own time, at your own pace, with over 1000 unique items to find and equip, and many monster variants to fight.”
The current build boasts a whole lot of things indeed, including 35 levels of content spanning roughly 100 hours, four different classes, 100 SimPlayers to party up with if one so chooses, and several gathering and crafting professions. Solo developer Brian Burgee has also put out a roadmap of updates planned during early access like guilds, raids, more world additions like dungeons and items, and a custom soundtrack. As for how long early access will run, the game’s Steam page estimates about 18 months.
The early access title costs $20 but is offering a 10% discount from now until April 21st, while the game’s full 1.0 release will come with a price increase, so if any of this sounds like the sort of experience you’re looking for, now is as good a time as any to try, or to perhaps download the demo beforehand.
