Star Citizen celebrates Halloween with contests, returning Arena Commander mode, and ship paint sales

It’s time for things to get spooky in Star Citizen, and this time we don’t mean terrifying ship prices. Instead the sandbox’s widespread Day of the Vara is happening, which marks Halloween with contests, a returning FPS mode in Arena Commander, and sales of paints and ship bundles. What, you thought that wasn’t happening? First time, eh?

In terms of game content, the Kill Collector mode is back in Arena Commander, which pits 12 players against one another in an elimination match that involves gathering trophies from downed foes. The top three scorers in each match will earn themselves several spooky helmets from previous years’ festivities.

The Halloween season is otherwise being marked with community contests that include the return of a pumpkin carving contest and a new horror story writing contest. Three winners for each contest will be chosen and win a variety of in-game ships and ship paints.

Speaking of ship paints, CIG is also selling new “black magic” paints for three of the game’s ships, along with returning ship paints, helmets, and new Halloween-themed starter bundles for those who want to buy in to the alpha. Just in case anyone out there has some money to kill.
