Star Citizen runs down alpha 3.23’s feature set including the return of Invictus event and a new hoverbike

Cloud Imperium continues to promise that Star Citizen’s alpha 3.23 is right around the corner, which is a similar refrain provided in this week’s Inside Star Citizen video, as it condenses all of the updates due with the next alpha build into one package.

Obviously those who have been following along won’t be surprised by too many things outlined here, such as a new character creator, updates to the game’s UI, distribution centers that serve as a nexus for multiple types of missions, and updates to FPS and ship-to-ship combat, as well as the now-delayed personal hangars functionality, which the devs said would literally make the game unplayable in its current state.

The video isn’t just about already known information, however: It also is used as a platform to confirm the return of Invictus Launch Week, which will be running for two weeks starting on alpha 3.23’s release. The Invictus event will also be the first time a new hoverbike will be added to the game in the form of the Mirai Pulse, a compact vehicle that’s built primarily for scouting and speed. The Pulse will be available in two forms: the base version, which has a laser minigun at its front, and the Pulse LX, which trades in the gun for an intake for increased speed and maneuverability.

It should be pointed out that the video doesn’t specify when alpha 3.23 is landing yet, but it would still like you to see all of the awaiting things regardless.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $650M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
