H1Z1 developers assure players that Survival is not forgotten

I'm sick of you leaving a trail of bodies wherever you go.

The first H1Z1 invitational is a pretty big deal, and it’s definitely taking the majority of developer attention as it draws closer. But however much you may like the Battle Royale gameplay style, you can almost certainly agree that it’s not focused on surviving against roaming hordes of zombies. A recent developer post on Reddit assures players that while the invitational is taking a lot of focus, that doesn’t mean other areas of the game have been forgotten.

September is already scheduled to focus around squashing bugs and improving Battle Royale for the invitational, but October and November are lined up to offer big updates to the Survival portion of the game. These updates include hospital points of interest, guild/clan systems, professions, new zombie types, and improvements to base building. There’s even a preview video of some raw art assets just below, if you’d like to see things in motion to know that they’re really happening. So players who prefer survival can rest easy knowing that it’s not dead, just resting for a bit.

KirkSteadman While it is not an MMO per say, 7 Days to Die is the closest I have played to this. Zombies hordes will swarm your base, and they become very fast at night. Even on PvP servers the player base is usually more interested in building, exploring, and survival than they are ganking.

Hate to say it but this game will never be focused around Survival aspect.
They’ve been so focused, even from their initial announcement of BR on this specific game mode way more than the actual game.

Delaying the map size, the new areas, & confirming that they are putting survival on hold for a bit.. (sigh) + this stupid tournament.. no thanks

KirkSteadman All I want is STALKER with maybe 2 or 3 other people. That’s enough post apocalyptic zombie mmo for me.

rottenrotny Well, they did say that their crafting and housing was suppose to make SWG players happy. But that hasn’t happen yet.

Why is it so hard to make a post apocalyptic zombie game that actually makes zombies the biggest threat? I really don’t think I have seen it done, they always just turn into glorified gank boxes with zombies that do nothing. Fuck take a page from 28 days later and make the zombies fucking brutal and fast, make it to were you would need to group up to survive. Ehh heres hoping someone can get it right.

Pepperzine I bought into it cause those LIARS said it would be more akin to an MMO, then they decided to go the hack-fest,gank-fest route and now h1z1 can kiss my a$$.

It might be worth taking them at their word, if they didn’t seem to be dragging their heels on all fronts.  Planetside 2 anyone?  Landmark?  As a company they seem awfully prone to chasing the next shiny, whatever that might be and certainly none of the properties that interest me seem to be developing at any sort of rate to inspire confidence.

Thanks GD. That gave me a nice little chuckle on a boring day at work.

Never enjoyed the Battle Royale in H1Z1.  It was not the reason I bought into it, was interested in the survival aspect.  I’ve put it down for now, but I’ll return when they get their priorities in order.

I liked this game at the start and had hopes that it would be something sandboxy and cool in a modern setting, but it looks like a shallow death match shooter unfortunately.

They need to increase the map to MMO world size, make crafting and housing deep and add more focus on PVE threat that’s so great that players need to work together.
Also some kinda of bounty system to hunt players who KoS a lot and possibly the ability to create your own factions.

But given recent developments I seriously doubt this will ever be anything other than a shallow death match game + zombies.
