Were you too busy gaming this week to pay attention to MMO news? Get caught up every Sunday evening with Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

This week, CCP stunned pretty much everyone by selling off White Wolf and the Vampire: The Masquerade IP, including all of its work on the World of Darkness MMO, which it canceled last year. Paradox, to which CCP sold White Wolf, wasted no time teasing new projects, though precisely what mix of “multiplayer co-op” we might expect remains to be seen.

Read on for the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions, and don’t forget that Halloween festivities continue in many games for a few more days or weeks!

EBreezy schmidtcapela Flimflamberge MorpayneRADIO That’s a totally valid way to play Werewolf: The Apocalypse in particular. Its focus is definitely on hunting the worse monsters. ;)

As long as they get rid of all that emo stuff, I’m okay with a World of Darkness MMO.

A tease worthy of the Circle Of The Crone Bree ! I doubt there’s much hope for an mmo rpg or otherwise for that franchise sadly
so many missed chances after a decade locked in purgatory!
I’ll raise a bottle of blood wine smuggled out of el de france at the very idea mind but it’d be 2020 before we’d see it :D

Xijit If this were something we could fix, our tech guy would have done it months ago. Basically, it’s the ad network we run through — they don’t have proper mobile support/responsive ads for mobile. I don’t like it — actually, I kinda HATE it — but I don’t have an easy way to fix it for them other than to keep harassing them to properly support it (because it’s freakin’ 2015), which they keep telling us will happen eventually.

schmidtcapela Flimflamberge MorpayneRADIO That describes every single Old WoD Werewolf game that I’ve ever played. There was a loose story, but we went around wrecking stuff and hunting BSDs and stuff.  My old group didn’t want to play Vampire and I figured it was because nobody but me wanted more story and stuff.

I’m not sure Paradox would make a MMO. And, as the new owners of the IP, they are free to do any kind of game they desire from it. Or to use elements from it on their other games.

Though, to be fair, most groups I know about play it as if it was D&D (hack & slash) with monsters as the PCs.

Myself, I stand at a middle point. I was never good about that “personal horror” thing, I find it too boring, but the groups I take part in tend to value non-violent solutions above combat, so lots of politics.

MorpayneRADIO You’ve described a certain ethos among WoD players that’s not really supported by the text of the sourcebooks.
Yes, it’s a world where horrific violence happens, but it’s violence caused by the kinds of monsters you’re supposed to avoid becoming, or to hunt and kill them. And yes, sex happens, but you’re supposed to only go as far as all in the group are comfortable, then fade to black. ERPing around the table is only fun for very few groups, and characters wandering around with their dicks out in an online game are likewise not going to be comfortable for everyone, including very mature and adult people.
There’s a reason why the games get labelled as “personal horror”. They’re more about looking at the psychological effect of being a monster than slasher movie gratuity.

Maybe it’s your device? My tablet picks up the mobile version just fine without any ‘ridiculously sized advertisements’.   Especially if it is a Mac product, because everyone knows that MMOs don’t play well on Macs and the same should go for MMO websites. ;P
