EverQuest boss bug bottlenecks progression servers

A nasty bug on EverQuest’s progression servers has kept players from completing an expansion boss for over a year now, with bug reports and complaints to Daybreak resulting in no action taken whatsoever. Whenever players engage the Rathe Council, a fight made up of 12 enemies, the mobs frequently despawn and respawn before the fight can be completed.

Even worse, according to a tipster’s report, is that guilds and individuals can intentionally trigger the despawning to keep others from finishing the fight. This has kept guilds and players from progressing through the Planes of Power expansion if the fight is encountered in its open world version.

One frustrated player summed up the experience thusly: “It really sucks to call a raid, COTH or clear all the way to Rathe, spend hours setting up , getting to the big moment having all 12 mobs perfectly under control, make the call to start killing, then the event bugs out on you. Then you call for a reset, it’s alright, lets do it again! Then it bugs out on you. Then you try again, and it bugs out on you. Then you say it’s alright we will get it tomorrow! Then you come back, do it all again. Then the event bugs out on you, for days, and days, and days…”

Oh and forgot to quote this other outright lie in the article:
” bug reports and complaints to Daybreak resulting in no action taken whatsoever”

The truth is both separate issues were responded to by developers and fixed within less than a month of their being reported. I know it’s popular to bash Daybreak, but at least stick to truthful reasons for doing so.

This article is really poorly researched. There is indeed a bug with the Rathe Council event. It hasn’t been present for over a year. First of all, the thread linked in the article was originally posted in July 2017. Secondly, that thread was posted about a different issue with the same event. A developer responded (also in July 2017) stating he had rewritten some of the script, fixing the issue.

Recently since the Agnarr server reached the PoP era, a new issue has been brought up with the same event. It was also addressed very quickly. It’s already fixed in the test patch, and the fix will go onto live servers next week.

Why would you write the article making it sound like players have been blocked from completing content for over a year? That’s just wildly inaccurate. Crappy reporting.

In Columbus Nova/Daybreak game…Boss triggers you!

(Too old of a joke? ;) )

From the Test Patch Notes from 05/08/2018

– Rathe Council raid – fixed issue that was causing the council to disappear and reappear repeatedly.

I get that EverQuest players are the hardest of hardcore MMO players, but isn’t a year a tad bit too long without a bug fix, to keep supporting a company?

Daybreak exists mainly to funnel money to pay off adultery claims anyway. The games are just a side venture.

The article is completely wrong. Nobody has been blocked for anywhere close to a year. Some players were blocked for a couple weeks last summer. That issue was fixed. Now some players on the Agnarr server are blocked due to a different issue. Agnarr has only been in the PoP era for 2 weeks. This new issue has already been fixed on the test server, and the fix will be pushed to live servers next week. Nobody was blocked for a year. Nobody was even blocked for a month. Fake news article, move along.

So they are basically offering the original broken Planes of Power experience then? Nice touch Daybreak.

Also, we need more headlines with alliteration.

Alliteration is what keeps some of us who have to do tons of writing at work, alive. If I wasn’t able to sneak bad puns/wordplay and plenty of alliteration into my copy, I’d have probably completely lost my mind long ago.

Working as intended I guess ? Meaning the original version, because it IS a progression server.
Rathe Council was always the toughest part of potime progression because you need to keep them a bunch mezzed and kill each council member in under a minute? (30sec? Or something like that) or the event will fail. Well, I was with a guild (EoE) on Vulak progression server that got the Rathe Council down, under that ruleset.
You need exceptional good and vt geared raiders to pull it off, especially enchanters and fast coordinated pullers.

From the top of my head. (Could be wrong, better look it up) The 6 mezzables in camp and they must NOT break free at any time (require exceptionally good mezzers) !!! Meanwhile fast pull, kite and kill the 6 others, kill the big one and then the 6 mezzed (maybe in reversed order, can’t remember), also something about offtanking something that require its own seperate ch chain?) Should be guides on old allakhazam or waybackmachine about the procedure.

This isn’t entirely accurate–I think you’re basing some of this on the thread from last year, which was a different (and fixed) bug. The current, open-world Rathe Council works fine…assuming nobody fucks with you. It’s the instanced version where the mobs are immediately despawning and respawning, which renders them unengagable.

The only guild that can get in to Time at the moment is Faceless and whomever they allow to complete the event (Zurdula so far, I believe). Having said that, this is the end of raid content for this server, so it’s not like anyone is in a big rush to gear up for future content–there isn’t any.

Yeah, given that the thread died right after the dev post and only came back up now that was my take as well. Issue was fixed, new issue similar to the first popped back up.

“guilds and individuals can intentionally trigger the despawning to keep others from finishing the fight” and each and every one should be perma-banned from the game. These damn PvE people need to learn sportsmanship!
