The latest content update for Gaijin Entertainment’s free-to-play vehicular-combat title War Thunder is now live, and it brings with it a slew of naval vessels from the United States, Germany, and the Soviet Union as well as new German helicopters, which join the recently introduced United States and Soviet choppers.
The centerpiece of the update, aptly named Masters of the Sea, is the addition of “85 historically accurate ships from the United States, Germany, and the Soviet Union,” which are now available to all players. In addition, another naval force — Great Britain’s own Royal Navy — has entered closed testing with a whopping 26 ships, “including the famous Flower-class corvettes — the symbol of victory for Britain.” Players who want to get their hands on the Royal Navy’s vessels during the closed testing period can do so “[obtaining] tester access through in game tasks” or by picking up a British naval pack from the in-game store.
Meanwhile, the Americans and Soviets are no longer alone in their air superiority, as a new set of German helicopters has been introduced to the game along with this update. Players can employ their new choppers “in combined arms battles including player-controlled tanks and aircraft” or “in dedicated helicopter vs helicopter encounters featuring AI ground targets.”
And last, but not least, the Xbox One version of War Thunder has concluded its pre-release phase and is now available as a free-to-play title to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers. War Thunder’s Xbox One version features crossplay with the game’s PC version, allowing console and PC players to join forces and/or blow the living hell out of one another.
