MMO Week in Review: The most ‘immortal’ thing about Diablo is fan rage

BlizzCon dominated the weekend, and Diablo dominated BlizzCon, though not exactly for the reasons we might have hoped for: Blizzard ham-handedly announced Diablo Immortal, a mobile-only MMOARPG, to a crowd of PC Diablo superfans. It, uh, didn’t go over so well.

World of Warcraft fans are probably happy right about now, however; Blizzard set WoW Classic for summer 2019 and outlined Rise of Azshara.

Yeah I figured, but I had to be sure because I was going to wash my bricks this week. Really dodged a bullet there, thanks Schlag!

Western gamers wont matter to companies until the investors/people at the top see the growth from across seas start to even out, and they start looking for ways to see the numbers go up another few percent.

What really ticked me off was how the so called “game journalist” attacked the pissed off fans that paid 200 bucks or more to go to Blizz com. These fans come from all over the world. And they being called immature haters and untitled babies. This is what you get with people who suck up to AAA game companies no matter what so they can get those interviews. These fans have every right to be pissed at a game that’s always been on PC and hasn’t had new content updates in years gets one for a dam phone. Heck i’m not the biggest Blizz fan and found D3 just ok. But understand why that fan base is pissed off.

Announcing mobile game on Blizzcon to PC oriented public is next level move from Blizzard PR team. Yet most of nerdrage comes from reddit lurkers, they are not even a half of diablo community, diablo is way bigger.Mobile market is huge and D:I only expand the audience and community as a whole.

They should take the T away so it can become Diablo Immoral.

By immortal I assume you mean about 5 days – the attention span of the average gamer.

I am offended that you think gamer’s have short attention spa……hey, look at that squirrel!

This is hilarious. “Don’t you have phones?” Diablo is huge on PC and no slouch on consoles, announcing a mobile only title, and a lackluster one at that, for this franchise is so boneheaded it boggles the mind. This is going to really piss off some friends that love Diablo more than I. I do like it but not as much as they do.

I think it was a great wake-up call. People don’t realized how detached Blizzard is right now.

Maybe they’re slowly realized, fuck-up by fuck-up, that their detachment will just bite them in their asses.

God, i’m anxious for the next fuck-up. It’ll be glorious.

Detached? Because they are watching PC numbers stagger and mobile numbers on the rise year by year? You do remember Blizzard is a company out to make a profit, yes?

Reader
Dwarf-Orc

Yeah. If the is anyone who knows that there is no money to be made in the pc/console space, it’s Blizzard.

D E T A C H E D.

How do you think their market is reacting right now? Blizzard is making all their fans and loyal customers miserable. For what? A mobile game that they could make as a sidecashcow?

I don’t think you realize this is completely detached because they are going for the asian market. The Western market didn’t NEED this. Didn’t WANT this. No one wanted this.

The Western market didn’t NEED this. Didn’t WANT this. No one wanted this.

Would you care to elaborate? Some “inside” info or what?

Reader
Bryan Correll

It’s pretty clear from the video evidence that Blizzcon attendees didn’t want it.

The real issue is not that “no one” wanted it. But the people that do want it are not the people who paid good money to attend Blizzard’s annual “Tell us how great we are!” party. It’s not something that should have been the big reveal to a crowd of mostly PC gamers who were really eager to hear about the franchise’s future.

Personally, I don’t think it’s awful that the game is being made. I won’t be playing it, but there are lots of game I don’t play. But the way it was announced had the effect of inviting a crowd of vegans to an awesome meal and once they were there announcing that it would be all-you-can eat steak.

I can sense their detachment in how they react to the criticism of the god-awful systems they’ve been pushing in WoW, forcing people to play the way they want us to play, not letting paying customers decide for themselves. Removal of master looter is just one example of a change nobody wanted and asked for.
