Star Trek Online announces Rise of Discovery, two new discounted Command Dreadnoughts

Boom.

Star Trek Online fans, point your eyeballs at PC Gamer this afternoon, as it’s got the scoop on Rise of Discovery – that’s the MMO’s next big update, with transmedia synergy mode fully engaged with tie-ins to Star Trek Discovery itself. It’s not entirely new information, as the roadmap last month already named this content and made clear starship leveling was undergoing major revitalization, plus Star Trek fans have already been going nuts over the free tier 6 ships on offer. But PC Gamer does have a peek into the plot; it says the patch will “fill in some blanks and give us a bit of backstory” about Captain Lorca and Commander Landry.

Meanwhile, what better way to start enjoying ship leveling than with a pair of particularly impressive new command dreadnought cruisers? A full stat breakdown is available for the Buran Command Dreadnought Cruiser for the Federation and the Qoj Command Dreadnought Cruiser for the Klingons, both of which have an impressive design and array of weaponry, abilities, inspiration buffs, and hangars full of eager attack craft.

If they look like exactly the sort of ships you want to be flying, the extra good news is that they’ll both be available for a discount when they launch on April 25th. Purchasing the ships by April 29th will let you pick up one for 2400 Zen or both for 4000 Zen, compared to the normal price of 3000 individually or 5000 for the bundle. Both of them are also available in fleet variants, as well, so players who like what they see might want to grab them early on the cheap.

Wow that Klingon ship looks really cool. I don’t play Klingons really, but that ship of theirs looks really interesting.

Funny enough I’d play Klingons if they were the Discovery type. Vicious and extremely alien looking, I really like the Discovery Klingons. Maybe they should have been a different new race instead for people who were attached to the old ones but I really like the Discovery Klingon design as an alien race.

I like the Qoj and 5 out of my 6 chars are on KDF side so I think I am going to get that.

I’d be more inclined to play if I didn’t have to play ground missions..

I’m a fan of 4 nacelle ships (blaspheme to some ;) ) so the Europa was high on my list for my Disco character, but the Buran is looking like it might supplant that.

Sadly the word “Discount” doesn’t really amount o much in PWE land, but the ships look great.

I like Discovery persoanlly, think it has been great, loved the writing, acting etc.. and the recent series finale was awesome so it is nice to see some more of that heading to the game.

And of course…Tilly :)

I prefer Killy’s straight hair, but personality-wise definitely Tilly, every day Tilly :)

I am no fan of Discovery. At all. But the folks at Cryptic have always been superb stewards of the Trek universe, and have made lemonade from lemons more than once with their extensions of the various plot threads left dangling by the shows.

They’ve made wonderful use of the actors who’ve been willing to reprise their roles as voices in the game – and it’s telling that so many of them were willing to do so over the years.

So I’d expect those who’re fond of Discovery to be pleased with the episode – at this point, I’d trust Cryptic more than CBS/Paramount to “do right” by the franchise.

The Tilly episodes are probably the best stuff they’ve ever done.

Yeah it’s good and I am enjoying the Romulan campaign on Xbox one.

I feel like this will be the mission where we see where Prime Lorca got swapped for his MU counterpart.

It’s just awesome they got Jason Isaacs to reprise his role here.
