Guild Wars 2’s Whisper in the Dark saga chapter is live this afternoon

At the tail end of this summer, ArenaNet revealed that it was changing up Guild Wars 2’s content cadence by ditching the “seasonal” content delivery system and swapping to a “saga” system that would allow larger and smaller episodes instead of requiring a more regimented storytelling structure. The first leg of the saga rolled out in September in the form of the Bound by Blood prelude. And now, we’re getting the first big episode in the Icebrood Saga, as Whisper in the Dark is launching today.

As we’ve previously noted, in addition to the spooky new story, players can expect rock-paper-scissors mastery mechanics, the new Bjora Marches map, the Ancient Boreal weapon set, and three bosses for the rotating strike missions.

“Like all Living World episodes, Whisper in the Dark will be free for all players who own Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire,” ArenaNet reminds us, so make sure you log in and “claim” the episode even if you’re not going to play it right now.

Stay tuned for our first peek into the expansion when our Flameseeker Chronicles on the episode is up later tomorrow!

Hah.

Man, sometimes i catch myself telling me to go back to GW2. Of all MMOs i’ve played, it’s one of three, who gives you a feel of actively being inside a world biggers than yourself ( WoW – GW2 – EQ2 ).

But when i remember the issues. The trashy WvW. The incredibly disgusting PvP. The talent system being a mess, and classes lacking versatility because of said talent system. No actual QoL features introduced worth a damn ( their LFG tool is pathetic, and that “housing” system is a complete disgrace ).

It actively makes me feel sad. Because i know the game is full of potential, and right now, it’s a raid-log game, except that you don’t log for raids, you log for LS.

Guild Wars 2 has more wasted potential than any MMO on the market right now. They had so much going for them. They squandered it on bland maps and a story no one cares about.

Not to mention, the Boreal weapons are deadly dull. Gotta spend real money if you want good skins in this game. I know they have to make money somehow, but weapon designs like this really drive home the issue. It’s kind of insulting.

Based on different reviews from other sites the map is small and the story is short. No legendaries, raids and fractals for the next couple of months.

Nevertheless, I’m excited.

its important to note that the map and story are about 50% the size of previous episodes but they’re also being release in 1/2 the time. So essentially they’re still the same size just released as 2 halves instead of 1 whole. At least thats as of episode 1
