We had two games tie for our “most anticipated” award in 2019, but since of them was demoted to merely multiplayer with offline components last week, that means there’s much more pressure on the other, Book of Travels. It was last year’s big Kickstarter hit for the MMO genre, as Swedish studio Might and Delight (of Meadow fame) raked in over $260,000. And even so, it’s an oddity, with a focus on hand-painted fairytale landscapes, calming sandboxy gameplay, and an anti-toxic roleplay-focused narrative. This is not your average hack-and-slash clone.
Now, at the top of the year, Might and Magic has laid out its development plans for the game in 2020, which it characterizes as the “last leg” of the project. Apparently, we’re looking at beta in May and June, with early access hitting in October.
“It’s hard to believe that we’re actually only nine months away from Early Access! Next month we’ll be deciding what to include in the beta – and it’s a pretty exciting task, because right now we’re seeing some key levels really come to life. We’re also working on our UI and we know a fair few of you are keen to see some screenshots, so we’re looking forward to including some in our next newsletter. And now we can finally share our two key play dates: in May and June we’ll be beta testing and October brings us to early access. (Are you a beta tester? More info is coming soon!)”
