Now that you’ve heard what our own writer thought about his hands-on with New World Aeternum at Summer Game Fest, you can get your own eyeballs on the game – if you’re a console player, that is. That’s because Amazon abruptly announced this morning that it’s opening sign-ups for a console beta test in July.

“We’re excited to invite players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to the mysterious island of Aeternum for a Confidential Console Closed Beta on July 11 at 9 a.m. PT through July 17 at 9 a.m. PT. This invite-only cross-play test will let console players in North America and Europe customize a character, experiment with unique weapons, and explore vast, supernatural zones before New World: Aeternum releases on Oct. 15. Players will also have the opportunity to try end-game content. […] To help us deliver the best possible experience at launch, we’ll review large-scale simultaneous new player onboarding, plus participant feedback on the first-time user experience and endgame open-world features. We want to hear your feedback on as many features and systems as possible, so please share your thoughts.”

Yes it’s under NDA, and yes, there’s a test for both PC and console players coming at some point after that, as explained in yesterday’s Q&A. Signups are live on the official site.
