One of the major features added to Star Citizen in alpha 3.24 was the personal hangar, a private instanced slice of the game that serves as a combination launching point for missions and a first pass at personal housing. Obviously there is a lot of tech that drives the whole system – along with subsequent issues that have arisen as a result – which is the subject of this week’s Star Citizen Live video.
This latest video is effectively a Q&A session with Chief Technology Officer Benoit Beausejour, who was noted as the one best qualified to address things brought up by players. Beausejour gave a couple of explanations for some of the recent bugs occurring with personal hangars, including nearby hangar instances causing the “ghost sounds” players have been hearing and data traffic loss management causing desync problems.
Beausejour also calls attention to new tracking tools that are helping CIG better discover the source of problems, and he promises that server meshing will ultimately help with server load balance and a better performance for the player as opposed to simply getting bigger servers. He also alluded to the fact that more reveals for server tech are planned for this year’s CitizenCon.
