While Star Citizen is still currently in alpha 3.24 with alpha 3.24.1 looming on the horizon, the sandbox’s weekly video digest is looking ahead to alpha 3.24.2, specifically the patch’s introduction of a new internet spaceship and updates to ship cockpit multi-function displays.

The majority of the footage highlights the RSI Zeus mk.II, which as one would expect is a slightly upgraded version of the original Zeus ship. This new craft comes in two variants: an exploration version with a bit more living space and bigger fuel tanks, and a cargo variant that eschews creature comforts for a bigger cargo hold. In typical CIG fashion, there is a lot of breakdown of ship interiors, features, and vehicle design.

The latter half of the video offers a look at a wide assortment of MFD updates. Not only will these elements receive a bit of a visual spit shine to align with various in-game ship manufacturers, but there will also be multiple changes to how existing MFDs convey ship information, some new displays that let pilots control power to certain ship systems, and a config MFD that adds or removes elements that appear across the center of the screen.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $700M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
