So how did your early access to Path of Exile 2 go? Because in the macrocosm sense, it was an extremely busy start to the OARPG’s life, with hundreds of thousands of players flooding the game via Steam and the unsurprising technical issues that sort of assault comes with.
Many of the game’s day one problems were chronicled in an official live Twitter thread as Grinding Gear Games worked to get a database configuration up and running, which ran into some crash problems a few different times. Players were also experiencing queues, which were engaged to ease backend strain.
There was also a rather amusing bug that saw pre-formed parties team up with random people instead that GGG was working to address. “Until we fix this, consider it a feature to enhance your social experience!” the studio joked.
All of this effort was of course a result of a massive player headcount, with Steam alone showing an initial peak of over 450K concurrent players. That number is likely going to keep climbing through the weekend; it’s already around 500,000 early Saturday afternoon as we’re prepping this post.
As for initial response, Steam reviews have fallen into the “very positive” column so far. Most players do point out that the game is a bit rickety right now but also say it’s fun when it’s functioning (although some reviews are less than patient with the current server woes). As one review puts it, “This is the best Exile-like game of all time.”
