It’s important in an MMO to feel like you own the bundle of stats and spells that you lovingly refer to as a character. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has taken a step toward improving that feeling with the first version of its character creator, just patched into the game’s test client. Hooray for making characters!
Meanwhile, Defiance 2050 has moved out of its test phase and into full-on relaunch territory. Hooray for launches!
There has been some other beta movement, too. Some of it is rather silly. Cases in point:
- Apparently some early testers on Saga of Lucimia were finding the game too hard and frustrating, which prompted the creative director to wonder why they hadn’t just asked other people to help and chide them for having “forgotten” how to group. That’s… certainly a thing.
- On the other extreme, The Division 2 won’t force you to group if you don’t want to. Want to solo the whole game? Go for it. Ubisoft badger don’t care. Ubisoft badger just wants your money.
- Rend is planning to enter early access on July 31st. We had a chat with the CEO of Frostkeep Studios about the title’s development as part of that announcement, so hooray for the future!
- Last but not least, Fractured is rolling out its development roadmap as the game’s Kickstarter enters its later stages. It’s worth noting at this point that the title has not yet hit its funding goal.
So, somewhat silly, but rather quiet. Not a bad week! We’ve got our usual list of games in development just below, and as always we appreciate anyone letting us know if something swapped phases without us noticing down in the comments. It’s very kind of you.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
