It was easy to miss amidst all of the other news contained in yesterday’s live letter from producer and director Naoki Yoshida, but Final Fantasy XIV’s staff was happy to announce yesterday that the game had passed a grand total of 20 million registered players worldwide. That’s not quite the same as subscribers, but it’s still a notably large number for the game, and it makes a decent foundation for news ahead of the new assortment of information on the game’s special site for patch 5.3.
The site hosts both the trailer for the patch that debuted yesterday as well as more lore about the Bozjan Southern Front and the struggle of the Resistance against the IVth Imperial Legion, along with a selection of screenshots highlighting what players can expect when the patch (and its later installments) go live. August 11th probably seems pretty far away at this point, but at least you can speculate!
