Welcome back to another quick roundup of some MMOs and MMO-adjacent titles you’ve probably never heard of. Please, by all means, go down into the comments and tell us that this title is fake news because actually you have heard of one of these. Be that guy! Everyone loves that guy!
4Story: Wow, remember Papaya Play? Apparently it’s still around and it’s just relaunched 4Story this month. It’s a decade-old MMO with PvP and kingdom management. The company says it had 10,000 signups ahead of the launch.
Wing of Misadventure: This Portuguese MMO is incoming on Steam next week. Publisher 4Tabern calls it the “definitive Massive Multiplayer Online RPG experience created on RPG Maker, featuring a unique art style, carefully crafted loot system and fast paced combat style, making it the perfect match for hardcore and casual gamers alike.” It’s the one shown in the header pic above, and if we’re honest, the screenshots make it look a lot cuter than the website does.
Legendarium Online – This is a brand-new sandbox MMO promising a big open world, no classes, and a launch in 2022, which seems like a hard sell for a game whose developer just started working on the game last month. But Nazgul Studios has also been pumping out dev vlogs, like this one.
Apsis Online – We mentioned this ASCII “minimalist MMO” almost two years ago in this very column. It seems it’s changed direction a bit, as now it’s being billed as a “minimalist multi-user roguelike game set in space” – yes, with a new acronym “MUR.” It’s on Indiegogo now.
TwoKinds: Finally, we come to TwoKinds, another game we first covered back in 2019. It’s notable for being one of the few SpatialOS games still kicking around the MMO world, and it actually spawned from a comic. Cookie Dragon Games put out a Q&A in November covering the development so far:
We’d love to hear about more MMOs we’ve never covered – drop us an email if you spy one!
