Take me to wherever this is.

The hour of testing has arrived for World of Warcraft’s next expansion… well, sort of. The hour of signing up for the hour of testing has arrived. More accurately the hours of testing, but… all right, this metaphor got away from us. The important thing is that you can now sign up to beta test The War Within by opting in for beta tests on the account page.

Assuming your account is selected, you can just open the drop-down menu on the Battle.net launcher and install the beta, then get to the testing straightaway. There is no way to be certain you will be selected, of course; you just have to opt in and hope you get picked. Or you could buy the expansion’s most expensive edition, which promises both early access and beta access if you really need to be in with the first wave of testing, something the announcement is quick to remind you about.

Activision-Blizzard is considered a controversial gaming company owing to a long string of scandals going back to 2019, including the Blitzchung boycott, mass layoffs, labor disputes, pay disparities, sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits, federal settlements, executive misconduct, botched Chinese partnership, unionbusting, disastrous management, brain drain, and bungled games. As of 2023, the company was finally acquired by Microsoft; just this year, it’s laid off 800 workers and misled gamers about WoW subs.
