It began quite innocently. A streamer asked whether he should play World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV. That would have been the end of it, except for the fact that the social media account for the former picked up on the tweet and answered the question… at which point the latter’s social media account also took it and ran with it. This set off a back-and-forth escalation between both accounts that is still going this morning; you can see the whole thing just past the break.
Obviously, it’s funny. It’s also somewhat unusual, as Blizzard in general has long held itself as rather separate from other MMO companies except when it comes time for a new expansion to incorporate some features from the Next Big Thing. Seeing the back-and-forth is unusual, and it’s also indicative of a paradigm shift wherein WoW cannot simply absorb or demolish MMOs like it used to. Or it’s just a fun Twitter thread; you be the judge.
Destroying moons? That's cute! What about an entire world? pic.twitter.com/ZxpehreqJu
